Description
CI 15850 is a monoazo colorant, chemically described as Disodium 3-hydroxy-4-[(4-methyl-2-sulphonatophenyl)azo]-2-naphthoate and its insoluble barium, strontium and zirconium lakes, salts and pigments. Its declared color is red, and the warnings field states verbatim: "Purity criteria as set out in Commission Directive 95/45/EC (E 180)". The reference to a Commission directive and to code E 180 sets the purity criteria. The cosmetic restriction field of CI 15850 in the CosIng inventory reads "IV/27 (CI 15850) III/296 (Pigment Red 57)". According to its chemical name in the inventory, PIGMENT RED 57:1 corresponds to the calcium salt.
