Description
Geranyl Acetate is an acetate ester, as follows from its chemical name 2,6-Octadien-1-ol, 3,7-dimethyl- ,1-acetate, (2E). In cosmetics it is assigned the technical functions TONIC and PERFUMING: ingredients with a perfuming function provide the characteristic olfactory profile of a formulation. It is also identified under the name GERANYL ACETATE.
Under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, the ingredient appears in Annex III, under reference 369, a list of substances that may only be used subject to the restrictions laid down. The applicable conditions do not set a numerical maximum concentration limit nor restrict the category of cosmetic product in which it may be incorporated. The entry establishes a specific obligation to declare it in the list of ingredients provided for in Article 19(1), point (g), with the following literal text: "The presence of the substance shall be indicated in the list of ingredients referred to in Article 19(1), point (g), when its concentration exceeds: — 0,001 % in leave-on products — 0,01 % in rinse-off products." No additional mandatory labelling warnings are established beyond the aforementioned declaration rule. The substance is not classified as CMR under the applicable criteria.
