Description
Laurus Nobilis Leaf Oil is a volatile essential oil obtained from the leaves of the bay laurel (Laurus nobilis L., Lauraceae family). Within the European cosmetic regulatory framework, it is assigned the technical functions of FRAGRANCE and PERFUMING. Ingredients of this category are incorporated into cosmetic formulations with the aim of providing aroma to the finished product.
The ingredient is listed in Annex III of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, under reference 359, a category that groups substances subject to specific restrictions of use in cosmetic products. The corresponding entry sets the following literal condition applicable to its use in formulations: "The presence of the substance shall be indicated in the list of ingredients referred to in Article 19(1), point (g), when its concentration exceeds: — 0,001 % in leave-on products — 0,01 % in rinse-off products." The entry does not set a maximum concentration limit of use, nor does it restrict the category of cosmetic product in which it may be incorporated. Nor does it establish additional mandatory labelling warnings beyond the aforementioned declaration obligation, or provide for classification as a CMR substance under the harmonized criteria applicable to this entry.
