Description

Santalol is an organic compound whose chemical name corresponds to a mixture of two isomers, alpha-santalol and beta-santalol, both identified by their "-ol" ending as alcohols. The nomenclature describes carbon structures with tricyclic and bicyclic skeletons. Its declared technical function in the European inventory is PERFUMING, a category that groups the ingredients used in cosmetics to provide or modify the olfactory profile of a formula, either as individual aromatic components or integrated into broader perfuming compositions.

Under the European regulatory framework for cosmetic products, Santalol is listed in Annex III, reference 341. The entry incorporates the following literal condition: "The presence of the substance shall be indicated in the list of ingredients referred to in Article 19(1), point (g), when its concentration exceeds: — 0,001 % in leave-on products — 0,01 % in rinse-off products". The condition distinguishes two thresholds expressed as a percentage of the finished product, one referring to leave-on products and the other to rinse-off products, and refers expressly to Article 19(1), point (g), which governs ingredient information on the labelling of the finished cosmetic product.

The information presented is for technical reference only and does not constitute a recommendation for use or an efficacy claim.
