Description
Santalum Album Oil is a volatile essential oil obtained from the heartwood of the Santalum album L. tree (Santalaceae family). Ingredients with a fragrance function provide an olfactory profile to cosmetic formulations, contributing to the sensory character of the finished product.
Under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, Santalum Album Oil appears in Annex III of substances subject to restrictions, under reference 367. The entry does not set a numerical maximum concentration limit, nor does it restrict the type of cosmetic product in which it may be incorporated. The applicable regulatory condition states literally that "The presence of the substance shall be indicated in the list of ingredients referred to in Article 19(1), point (g), when its concentration exceeds: — 0,001 % in leave-on products — 0,01 % in rinse-off products". No additional mandatory labelling warnings have been established in the Annex III entry beyond the specific declaration obligation cited. The substance is not classified as CMR (carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction) under categories 1A, 1B or 2 of the CLP Regulation.
The inclusion of this ingredient is governed by the declaration thresholds established in the applicable labelling legislation. The information presented is for technical reference only and does not constitute a recommendation for use or an efficacy claim.
