Description

1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-C7-11-branched and linear alkyl esters belongs to the chemical family of phthalic acid esters, also called phthalates. This class corresponds to diesters derived from the reaction between 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid and alkyl-chain alcohols, in this case a mixture of branched and linear chains of seven to eleven carbon atoms.

Under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on cosmetic products, this substance appears in Annex II, reference 1153, which lists the substances prohibited in cosmetic products marketed in the European Union. Inclusion in Annex II means that the substance cannot form part of the composition of cosmetic products intended for the European market. In addition, the CosIng entry records a CMR classification as Reprotoxic Category 1B, in accordance with the harmonized nomenclature of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP). No particular maximum concentration conditions, mandatory labelling warnings or specific product-type restrictions are established, since inclusion in Annex II operates as a comprehensive prohibition of use.
