Under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on cosmetic products, this substance is entered in Annex II under reference 1159, a list that gathers the substances whose presence is prohibited in the composition of cosmetic products marketed in the European Union. Inclusion in this Annex means that the substance cannot form part of the cosmetic formulation. The substance has a harmonized classification as a category 1B carcinogen under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP). This CMR classification is consistent with the inclusion of the substance in the prohibition list, since the European cosmetic regulatory framework prohibits, with strict exceptions, substances classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction of category 1A or 1B.
Substances included in Annex II of the European Cosmetics Regulation make up the exclusion list, covering compounds whose incorporation into cosmetic products is not permitted in the territory of the Union.
