Description

6-Methoxy-m-toluidine (p-Cresidine) is a substituted aromatic amine, belonging to the family of methoxylated toluidines. Structurally it corresponds to a benzene ring that combines a primary amino group, a methyl substituent and a methoxy group at defined positions, a feature that places it among functionalized anilines.

Under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on cosmetic products, this substance is entered in Annex II, reference 1162, which lists the substances prohibited in cosmetic products marketed in the European Union. Inclusion in this annex means that the substance cannot form part of the composition of cosmetic products intended for the Community market. In addition, the substance has a harmonized classification as Carcinogen Category 1B under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP), a category that applies to substances for which carcinogenic potential for humans is assumed on the basis of evidence from animal studies.

In the current European cosmetic context, substances included in Annex II fall outside the repertoire of usable ingredients, which is why their presence in formulations intended for the EU market is not admissible. The information presented is for technical reference only and does not constitute a recommendation for use or an efficacy claim.
