Description

Diammonium nickel hexacyanoferrate is an inorganic complex salt belonging to the family of hexacyanoferrates, coordination compounds formed by an anionic iron core surrounded by six cyano groups and stabilized by cations, in this case nickel and ammonium.

Under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on cosmetic products, this ingredient is listed in Annex II, reference 1439, which enumerates the substances whose use is prohibited in cosmetic products marketed in the European Union. Inclusion in that annex implies an absolute prohibition on incorporation into any category of cosmetic product, with no maximum permitted concentration or exceptions by product type. The substance also has a CMR classification as Carcinogenic Cat. 1A under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures, a category that identifies agents with demonstrated carcinogenic capacity in humans. No additional labelling warnings are established, since inclusion in Annex II excludes its presence in finished formulations.

Its presence in Annex II of the European Cosmetics Regulation means that it cannot be incorporated into formulations intended for contact with the skin, mucous membranes or skin appendages within the Union territory. The information presented is for technical reference only and does not constitute a recommendation for use or an efficacy claim.
