Description
Nickel boride (NiB) [1]; Dinickel boride [2]; Trinickel boride [3]; Nickel boride [4]; Dinickel silicide [5]; Nickel disilicide [6]; Dinickel phosphide [7]; Nickel boron phosphide [8] group together a set of binary and ternary inorganic nickel compounds with boron, silicon and/or phosphorus in different stoichiometric proportions. No technical function has been assigned to them in the European inventory of cosmetic ingredients.
These compounds are included in Annex II of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, reference 1462, which lists the substances prohibited in cosmetic products marketed in the European Union. The entry groups eight inorganic nickel compounds with boron, silicon and/or phosphorus, jointly identified under the same reference. The listing in Annex II implies a prohibition of use in cosmetics with no maximum concentration established and no restriction by product type. All the compounds in the group receive the CMR classification of carcinogenic category 1A. No additional cosmetic restrictions, other restrictions, other specific applicable regulations or mandatory labelling warnings are recorded beyond those arising from the general prohibition.
As they are included in Annex II, these compounds have no recognized technical function or authorized use in cosmetic formulations within the regulatory framework of the European Union. No other applicable regulations, additional cosmetic restrictions or specific conditions of use are recorded. The information presented is for technical reference only and does not constitute a recommendation for use or an efficacy claim.
