Description
Nickel dicyanide is an inorganic compound belonging to the class of metal cyanides, formed by the combination of nickel as a transition metal with cyanide groups as ligands. In the cosmetic context, the ingredient has no technical function classified in the inventory, so no recognized formulating functions are attributed to it within the reference framework of cosmetic ingredients.
Under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, Nickel dicyanide is included in Annex II, reference 1440, corresponding to the list of substances prohibited in cosmetic products. Inclusion in that annex means that the substance cannot form part of the composition of cosmetic products marketed in the territory of the European Union. In addition, the substance has a harmonized classification as Carcinogen Category 1A, under the applicable hazardous substance classification system. This CMR classification reinforces the regulatory status of the substance within the European cosmetic safety framework. No maximum concentration conditions, additional labelling warnings or specific product type restrictions are established, given the prohibitive nature of inclusion in Annex II.
In the European cosmetic industry, the substances included in Annex II are excluded from the development and formulation process of finished products intended for the final consumer. The information presented is for technical reference only and does not constitute a recommendation for use or an efficacy claim.
