Description

Nickel hydrogen phosphate, together with Nickel bis(dihydrogen phosphate), Trinickel bis(orthophosphate), Dinickel diphosphate, Nickel bis(phosphinate), Nickel phosphinate, Phosphoric acid calcium nickel salt and Diphosphoric acid nickel(II) salt, constitute a group of inorganic nickel salts derived from phosphoric, phosphinic and pyrophosphoric acids. Chemically they belong to the class of inorganic metal compounds, formed by the combination of the nickel cation with phosphate, dihydrogen phosphate, orthophosphate, diphosphate or phosphinate anions.

Under the regulatory framework of the European Union, this set of substances is included in Annex II of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on cosmetic products, under reference 1438. Annex II contains the list of substances whose presence is prohibited in the composition of cosmetic products marketed in the territory of the European Union. Inclusion in this annex implies a prohibition of use in any category of cosmetic product, with no possibility of application under maximum concentrations, labelling warnings or other restrictive conditions. These substances additionally have a harmonized classification as Carcinogen Category 1A under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures, a condition that underpins their inclusion among the substances not authorized for cosmetic use in the European Union.

In the European cosmetic context, the substances listed in Annex II are excluded from any formulation function. The information presented is for technical reference only and does not constitute a recommendation for use or an efficacy claim.
