Description

Nickel(II) silicate belongs to the family of inorganic metal silicates, compounds formed by the combination of a metal cation, in this case divalent nickel, with anions derived from silicic acid.

In the European Union, this compound is listed in Annex II of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 under reference 1442. Annex II contains the list of substances whose use is prohibited in cosmetic products marketed in the territory of the Union. Inclusion in this annex means that the substance cannot form part of the composition of cosmetic products intended for the final consumer within the scope of the Regulation. In addition, the substance has a harmonized classification as Carcinogen Category 1A under the hazardous substance classification system in force in the European Union. No maximum concentration conditions, specific labelling warnings or restrictions by product type are established, since the prohibition is general in nature.

The presence of a substance in Annex II determines its exclusion from the cosmetic field in the European Union, regardless of the technical role that might be attributed to it in other contexts. The information presented is for technical reference only and does not constitute a recommendation for use or an efficacy claim.
