Description

Ethylhexyl Triazone is a heterocyclic organic compound belonging to the family of trisubstituted triazines, characterized by a central 1,3,5-triazine ring bound to three aromatic groups with ethylhexyl ester chains. Its declared technical function comprises light stabilizer, UV absorber and UV filter. UV filters are cosmetic ingredients designed to interact with the ultraviolet radiation incident on products formulated for that purpose, while UV absorbers and light stabilizers are substances that, within a formulation, take part in processes of selective absorption of wavelengths of the ultraviolet spectrum.

Under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on cosmetic products, Ethylhexyl Triazone is listed in Annex VI, reference 15, which corresponds to the list of authorized ultraviolet filters. The maximum authorized concentration in the finished cosmetic product is "5%". The regulatory text does not lay down additional conditions of use for specific product types, nor particular mandatory labelling warnings. The ingredient is not classified as a CMR substance (carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction) under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. No additional cosmetic restrictions are recorded beyond reference VI/15, nor any other specific regulations associated with the substance within the official data published in the harmonized inventory.

UV absorbers and light stabilizers additionally fulfil a technical role in protecting other components of the cosmetic matrix against photochemical degradation. The information presented is for technical reference only and does not constitute a recommendation for use or an efficacy claim.
