Description

OCTOCRYLENE is a substituted acrylate. Its declared technical function comprises light stabilizer, UV absorber and UV filter. Ingredients of this functional class are used in cosmetic formulations to attenuate the incidence of ultraviolet radiation on the finished product or on the application surface, acting by absorption of specific wavelengths of the UV spectrum.

Under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, the ingredient is listed in Annex VI, reference 10, the list of UV filters authorized in cosmetic products. The maximum authorized concentration is set at two thresholds according to the type of product: "a) 9%" for "Propellant spray products" and "b) 10%" for "Other products". Footnote (*3) is additionally established: "Benzophenone as an impurity and/or degradation product of Octocrylene shall be kept at trace level", which sets a trace-level limit for benzophenone present as an impurity or degradation product. No additional mandatory labelling warnings or supplementary literal conditions are prescribed beyond those indicated. The ingredient is not classified as CMR according to the data recorded in the Annex VI, reference 10 entry.

The information presented is for technical reference only and does not constitute a recommendation for use or an efficacy claim.
