Description

HOMOSALATE is a substituted salicylic ester, belonging to the family of phenolic compounds derived from salicylic acid. It is an organic molecule used in cosmetic formulation with the declared technical function of FRAGRANCE, UV ABSORBER and UV FILTER. Ingredients classified as UV filters are substances capable of interacting with ultraviolet radiation within the terrestrial solar range; UV absorbers, in particular, act on specific wavelengths within that spectrum. The INCI name coincides with the INN homosalate, with no additional commercial synonyms listed beyond the identifier HOMOSALATE itself.

In European cosmetics regulation, this ingredient is listed in Annex VI, reference 3, the positive list of UV filters authorized in cosmetic products placed on the market in the European Union. The maximum authorized concentration is "7,34 %". The authorized product type is limited to "Face products with the exception of propellent spray products". The conditions state that "From 1 January 2025 cosmetic products containing that substance and not complying with the conditions shall not be placed on the Union market. From 1 July 2025 cosmetic products containing that substance and not complying with the conditions shall not be made available on the Union market." No additional mandatory labelling warnings are established and the substance is not classified as CMR.
