Description
Bis-(Diethylaminohydroxybenzoyl Benzoyl) Piperazine is an organic compound derived from piperazine, a nitrogenous heterocycle that acts as the structural core to which two diethylaminohydroxybenzoyl benzoyl groups are bound, as the prefix bis- in the chemical name indicates. It is catalogued with the technical function of UV filter. UV filters are cosmetic ingredients incorporated into formulations designed to attenuate the incidence of ultraviolet radiation on the skin, and they constitute the category of substances specifically regulated within Annex VI of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on cosmetic products in the European Union.
Under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on cosmetic products, the substance is listed in Annex VI, the list of permitted UV filters, under reference 33. The maximum authorized concentration in the ready-to-use cosmetic product is set at "10 %". The regulatory entry also incorporates the following literal provision on combined use with the nanometric form: "In case of combined use of Bis-(Diethylaminohydroxybenzoyl Benzoyl) Piperazine and Bis-(Diethylaminohydroxybenzoyl Benzoyl) Piperazine (nano), the sum shall not exceed 10 %". The nanometric form of this substance constitutes a separate entry within the same Annex VI and is considered independently from the non-nanometric form.
