Description

DIETHYLHEXYL BUTAMIDO TRIAZONE (Iscotrizinol, USAN) is an organic compound whose name refers to the family of substituted triazines. The structure, as stated by its chemical name, incorporates butamido functions and diethylhexyl chains on the triazine core. Within cosmetic nomenclature it is classified with the technical functions of light stabilizer, UV absorber and UV filter. Ingredients with these functions are incorporated into cosmetic products to interact with the ultraviolet radiation incident on the formulation or the skin, and to contribute to the photochemical stability of other components of the formula against light-induced degradation.

In Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, this substance is included in Annex VI, reference 17, which lists the ultraviolet filters admitted in cosmetic products within the European Union. The maximum authorized concentration in the ready-for-use product is "10%". The entry is not associated with a restriction by specific product type within the listing of this annex, nor with additional mandatory labelling warnings under the reference cited, nor with a CMR classification according to the applicable regulatory data. The applicable cosmetic restriction is identified as VI/17. Operators must verify compliance with the literal terms of the entry when formulating products containing this ingredient.

Ultraviolet filters and UV absorbers are used in cosmetic formulations intended to interact with solar radiation, as well as to preserve the integrity of photosensitive ingredients within the formula itself. Light stabilizers fulfil an analogous role in preserving the stability of the product during its shelf life. The information presented is for technical reference only and does not constitute a recommendation for use or an efficacy claim.
