Description

Isoamyl p-Methoxycinnamate is an organic ester, corresponding to the condensation of isoamyl alcohol with p-methoxycinnamic acid. Under the international nonproprietary name (INN) it is identified as amiloxate. In the INCI functional classification it is attributed the technical functions of ultraviolet filter (UV FILTER), ultraviolet absorber (UV ABSORBER) and light stabilizer (LIGHT STABILIZER). Ingredients grouped under these functions are generally incorporated into cosmetic formulations within the framework established by the functional categories of INCI nomenclature, whose definition is limited to describing the technical role of the component in the finished formula.

At the European regulatory level, the ingredient is entered in Annex VI of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on cosmetic products, under reference 14. Annex VI corresponds to the positive list of ultraviolet filters admitted for use in cosmetic products placed on the market in the European Union, and the numerical reference identifies the specific entry that gathers the published conditions for this substance. The applicable quantitative condition sets a maximum concentration of "10%" in the finished cosmetic product, as literally recorded in the annex entry. The positive list of Annex VI enumerates the substances authorized to perform the function of ultraviolet filter under the European Union cosmetic Regulation.

Ingredients with the technical function of ultraviolet filter and ultraviolet absorber are generally incorporated into cosmetic formulations whose product category involves interaction with solar radiation. The light stabilizer function is generically associated with maintaining the integrity of other components of the formula against light exposure during the shelf life of the product. The information presented is for technical reference only and does not constitute a recommendation for use or an efficacy claim.
